Focus On: Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery

At Maple Moon, it’s not just about the syrup, wine, cider, or the many other sweet treats you can find. The Petersens strive to make a visit to Maple Moon unforgettable for the entire family. Maple Moon continues to expand, and in 2015 the Petersens ventured into making wine and hard cider. Maple syrup lacks the acidity of grapes, offering a unique flavor palate that allows for a diverse product line.

Focus On: White Birch Outfitters

They created White Birch Outfitters to be an experience for their customers. Not only can customers visit the store to shop for their outdoor adventures, but they can also reserve space in the organized activities offered by White Birch. At the same time, they can examine an impressive collection of heritage photographs and historical articles and stories that testify to the rich natural history of Northern Michigan.

Focus On: Northern Lights

About ten years ago, Melissa Benovic was traveling with her husband, Ilker Arslan, to Istanbul, Turkey, where they visited the Grand Bazaar. It was the first time she had seen a mosaic lamp, and she was in awe of the craftsmanship and beauty of the pieces.

Focus On: Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School

Little did the Valents know that this was the Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School, which the dean of students had moved from New York to Bay City after Howard died in 1966. Tom was a natural Santa, and Holly the perfect Mrs. Claus. They became very involved with the school, and, in 1987, Tom became its third dean of students. Tom and Holly moved the school to Midland, and the rest is history.
