Focus On: The Rusty Pelican

The story of the Rusty Pelican actually begins in Illinois, where Northern Michigan native Cassie Meredith was living at the time. Since she wasn’t from the area, she looked for a fun side job that would allow her to meet people and ultimately settled on a job at the Galena Cellars tasting room.

Building Community: Huron Pines

One such organization is Huron Pines, a nonprofit located in Gaylord. Since 1973, it has focused on the environmental conservation of lakes, forests, and streams with the ultimate goal of protecting the Great Lakes.

Focus On: White Birch Outfitters

They created White Birch Outfitters to be an experience for their customers. Not only can customers visit the store to shop for their outdoor adventures, but they can also reserve space in the organized activities offered by White Birch. At the same time, they can examine an impressive collection of heritage photographs and historical articles and stories that testify to the rich natural history of Northern Michigan.

Out and About: Cross-Country Skiing is Uniquely Delicious in Gaylord

The Treetops Culinary Adventure Series, the Skiable Feast is a 6K cross-country ski excursion augmented by gourmet food and drink stations along the trails. Treetops rents equipment for the intermediate-level trek. Groups of friends and family can traverse the trail at their own pace.
