Funky, eclectic, hip, stylish, earthy. All are words that readily describe Rebel Magnolia in Saginaw. Owners Hailey Cannon and Lauren Husen each bring their own special style and strong design skills to this chic boutique, Cannon with a fun bohemian vibe and Husen adding a mid-century modern flair.
The two women became fast friends after repeatedly running into each other as fellow vendors in local outdoor markets. They soon began sharing ideas about creating a small upscale flea market, forged ahead, and realized they worked well together. Their first market in 2015 was such a success that they decided to expand their business relationship.
Cannon had a small store at the time, and it seemed that a complete re-branding and a move into a new 3,500-square-foot space were the next best steps for this dynamic duo. Together, they brought a whole new look and feel to the boutique.
Recently, the two began offering a customized home styling service. With their wide variety of home décor — wall art in all shapes and sizes, glassware, picture frames, pillows, candles, and custom lighting and furniture — Rebel Magnolia can style any room in your home.
Much to Husen’s delight, the boutique has also become known for its amazing selection of live plants. From mini succulents to seven-foot fig trees, snake plants, rubber trees, and more, Rebel Magnolia customers are realizing the benefits that decorating with plants brings to a room.
Since its humble beginnings in 2015, the outdoor market aspect of Rebel Magnolia has grown into a pretty amazing upscale flea market that takes place twice a year. On Mother’s Day weekend and the weekend after Labor Day, the market draws over 100 vendors and food trucks, bringing in crowds that number well over 5,000. The Rebel Magnolia flea markets are juried, which means Cannon and Husen speak personally with each vendor to be sure they are set up for success and that their visitors will enjoy their shopping and dining experience.
Many vendors have become like family because they have repeatedly participated in the market, but Husen and Cannon also love to welcome new and unique vendors to the market each season.
Technically, the shows run one day — Saturday — but if you can’t resist a sneak peek, you can purchase a VIP wristband for the special Friday night shopping event. At the market, they carry furniture in every shape and style — retro, modern, country, primitive, eclectic vintage and patina – as well as clothing, bath and body, candles, baby clothes, headbands, pillows, and enough home décor to make your head spin! And don’t forget the amazing food trucks, starting with Southern BBQ, gourmet coffee, ice cream, fried chicken, tacos … and the list goes on and on.
