New Year’s Eve Festivities

Northern Michigan is luminous and tranquil when covered in a fresh blanket of snow. The breathtaking vistas, charming destinations, and special events continue, enhanced by smaller crowds than one might find in a city. Several festive celebrations are planned across the region to welcome 2020.

Regional Feature: DLH Builders

This is something Ryan Hill of DLH Builders gives a lot of thought to. “Placement is just as important as the structure because the beauty of the property adds to the beauty of the home. I pride myself on protecting the integrity of Torch Lake because I love it.”

Unusual Fall Fun

All Michiganders know the familiar signs of nature’s presence in autumn: bountiful harvests, cooler temperatures, and brilliant fall foliage. Natives of Traverse City are privy to another unusual and entertaining harbinger of the season: the salmon run at the Boardman River Fish Weir.

Focus On: Northern Nail Polish

The newest product for Northern Nail Polish is an all-natural, soy-based polish remover. It has no acetone, and hence, no odor, and it actually nourishes your nails with lavender oil as it removes the polish. Just put a few drops on, let it sit for a few seconds, and use a cotton ball to rub it off. Magic!

Kalamazoo Cat Cafe

The Kalamazoo Cat Café and Rescue opened its doors in 2017. Café director Abbey Thompson was already spearheading local adoption events when she happened to visit Catmosphere Cat Café in Sydney during a post-grad school trip to Australia. It was this experience that inspired her to further action.

An Amped-Up Adventure Awaits in Southwest Michigan: GRIDLIFE Midwest

Motorsports events and music festivals are ever-popular summer destinations. Those who have an affinity for both will enjoy an amped-up adventure in South Haven at GRIDLIFE Midwest, May 30 – June 2. Billed as a “grassroots automotive experience,” this one-of-a-kind event celebrates all aspects of motorsports and music.

Bayberry Cottage

Bayberry Cottage is set up as a true home décor boutique, with every aspect of the home on display. The focus is on a casual lake lifestyle with fun, bold colors and designs. Gwen DeBruyn wanted to create a true one-stop-shop offering an extensive line of furniture and creative lighting options, artwork, homewares, and accessories like throw rugs and pillows.

The Rust Belt Market

As luck would have it, Tiffany had taken note of a large building on a busy corner in Ferndale. A building that had been empty for many years made for owners that were very motivated to lease it out. So, with a little savings and some family loans, the couple took a leap of faith and The Rust Belt Market was born.

Van Hoosen Museum

Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen, a notable former owner of the Van Hoosen Farm, is a great example deserving of such recognition. A world-renowned surgeon in the late 1800s, Van Hoosen overcame significant challenges and criticism before launching her private practice – and she confronted similar challenges throughout her career.
