Artist Sue Bolt is a local Charlevoix legend. For 60-plus years, Sue and her husband Russ have been creating one-of-a-kind art in their studio, Grange Hall Pottery, just a few miles south of Charlevoix. Along with hand-painted ceramics, they are well known for creating amazing watercolor and acrylic paintings.
Sue’s art is inspired by the nature that is all around her. Her extensive collection of whimsical angels will capture your heart. Her love for painting flowers, nature, and critters of all shapes and sizes will put a smile on your face. From vases, sculptures, plates, and tiles to printed greeting cards created from her original artwork, Sue’s talents seem limitless. Husband Russ shares those same talents and is also an inspired creator of unique artwork that includes prints and paintings along with note cards and historic tiles.
Sue says that her ceramic plates, bowls, and vases continue to stand the test of time as the studio’s most popular sellers. The bright, uplifting colors of the flowers and angels she paints have captured the hearts of many over the years.
Some of Sue’s favorite projects are in-home murals created from her hand-painted tiles. Taking anywhere from two to three months, winter is the perfect time for indoor projects such as these.
Grange Hall Pottery is a working studio. That means there is a good chance you will see Sue, Russ, or daughter Lori hard at work creating a masterpiece.
Over the years, the Bolts have traveled the country selling their work at large art fairs and festivals. These days, they choose to stay closer to home and enjoy the beauty of their studio and the surrounding property they love so dearly.
Give the Bolts a call to verify studio hours for the season before you stop by.
